2006 Class: McDonough Ath A.J. Wallace

With scholarship offers from schools including LSU, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State and Virginia, McDonough High School (Pomfret, MD) star A.J. Wallace is certainly making a name for himself. Of course, he did that over his past two seasons as a two-way starter for head coach Dave Bradshaw.

As a sophomore, Wallace rushed for 1,100 yards at tailback on offense. Defensively, he made four interceptions and had 72 tackles. As a junior this past season, Wallace improved on his rushing total from the previous year, rushing for 1,260 yards and 22 touchdowns. Defensively, he made two interceptions and tallied 67 tackles.

Very fast, Wallace, who as a sophomore was a finalist in states in the 100 meters event in track, has been timed on the track in the 40 yard dash at 4.36 seconds. His best 100 meters time is 10.68 and he has run the 200 meters in 21.9 seconds. Making his speed seem even more impressive is his size. Bradshaw lists Wallace at 6-1, 192 pounds.

“Obviously his ability to move as well as he does for being a decent size kid, but offensively he just has great vision,” Bradshaw said. “He’s able to really see the field. Things slow down for him out there and you just can’t coach that. He’s able to look and see things and he’s able to hit seams and just get downhill quick. He’s a pretty elusive runner. We try to get him the ball however we can. We kind of use him a little bit at receiver too. We normally don’t line up him right at receiver, but we use him out of the backfield and we’ll motion him out and go into a four receiver set with him. So he has played some receiver for us too. He’s just our go-to-guy.
