Moore Catholic (Staten Island, NY) star Vidal Hazelton first move to wide receiver was his sophomore year, in the championship game. The move not only proved to be very fruitful that day, but it would spark Hazelton into this past season when he would blossom into one of the country’s best wide receiver prospects.

“Actually I was a starting running back,” Hazelton said, reflecting on his sophomore year. “We used to run the ball a lot but then they started keying on us, especially in the playoffs. So in the championship of the playoffs they started keying on us again so that’s when they moved me to receiver. We started throwing the ball from there. I had two touchdowns and scored the game winning touchdown too. I forgot what the play was, but we only had a couple of seconds left and they were winning by four points. We were on the 30-yard line and we had one play left. Our quarterback scrambled to the left. He cocked it back and gunned it and it hit my chest and I just fell back into the end zone.”

Hazelton, who grew three inches to about 6-3 before the beginning of his junior year, finished with 39 catches for 784 yards (20.1 yards per catch) and 17 touchdowns this past season. He shows excellent speed and quickness and has a natural elusiveness to his game.

“For some reason I just think mad quick on the field,” Hazelton said. “When I get the ball I’ve got good vision so I just see things quick and I’ve got the moves and stuff.”
