Bishop McDevitt Players Rolling in Offers

The spring evaluation period, which begins today and runs through the end of May, should be much busier for Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, PA) head football coach Jeff Weachter than most other high school football coaches. That’s because he boasts four of the top recruits in the East in 5-11, 208-pound RB LaSean McCoy , 6-3, 205-pound QB Jeremy Ricker , 6-3, 320-pound DT/OL Jason Kates and 5-11, 175-pound CB/WR Aaron Berry .

McCoy and Ricker garner much of the publicity, and rightfully so, but Kates and Berry are also showing very well in terms of scholarship offers. Kates has seen his offer list grow substantially since our last update and should see more success over the next month and a half.

“Jason has been offered by a number of schools,” Weachter said. “He probably has close to 20 offers. I can’t even keep track because everyday we get so many letters. Just this week he was offered by Notre Dame. He has Boston College, Maryland, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Virginia. Virginia Tech indicated that they were very close. They can’t find the film, so I told Danny Pearman the other night on the phone I’ll send another one down.”

An all-state defensive tackle, Kates is seeing interest on both sides of the ball for the next level. If he ends up on the offensive line, guard may be the likely position.
