Williams a Top ACC Target

Despite a hamstring injury, White Oak (Jacksonville, NC) wide receiver/safety recruit Deunta Williams managed to impress in several recent combines. He displayed a 41-inch vertical leap at the All-American combine held at Duke and ran a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash during a recent Shrine Bowl combine. Williams’ impressive athleticism coupled with a good frame (6-3, 195-pounds) makes him one of the top recruits in his home state.

“He’s a great athlete who has great character,” former White Oak Head Coach Robbie Ellis said. Ellis retired as head coach following the 2004 season. “I’ve coached a lot of good athletes over the years and he may be the best one. He’s just a great athlete. He has tremendous speed.”

A starter on both sides of the ball, Williams’ primary positions are wide receiver and strong safety. He showed versatility last season in filling in wherever needed, including stints at quarterback and tight end. Still, he ended up with 11 touchdown receptions last season.

Next season, new White Oak Head Coach Bob Blick will not move his star to other positions.
