UVa Eyes Asheville Teammates

Head coach Danny Wilkins boasts two excellent players who hope to lead Asheville High School (NC) to a state championship next season. Asheville has been to the state semifinal game three consecutive seasons and has suffered three straight defeats, including a 21-20 heartbreaker to Concord last season. But with the return of two of his best players – who are also two of the best players in the state – Wilkins has reason to be excited for next season.

“Both of these guys are unbelievable competitors,” Wilkins said of quarterback/defensive back “Crezdon Butler and tailback/defensive back “Johnny White . “I mean, I’ve been coaching for 26 years now and these two are very special. Crezdon is 6-1, 175 pounds, and fast. He’s been clocked at 4.4 on grass and in the 4.3s on the track. He’s just very explosive and a fluid runner. A lot of people are recruiting him as an athlete. They don’t know whether they’re going to play him at wide receiver or defensive back. Most teams think he’ll make an excellent college corner.

Johnny White is 6-0, 190 pounds. He and Crezdon are almost identical speed wise. They both run in track. In fact, our track team won the Western Regional track meet this past Saturday and they go for the state track meet this Saturday. We’ve got a legitimate shot at the state championship.”

Butler and White have been productive for the Asheville varsity squad for quite some time.
