Mount Hebron Star Has 16 Offers

“He’s just got tremendous athletic ability,” Mount Hebron (Ellicott City, MD) head coach Larry Luthe said. “He’s got size, strength, quickness and he has a passion for the game. [Before he tried out for the team] He wrote me a letter his freshman year saying that he was going to be a Division 1 football player. He’ll be the first Division 1A player we’ve had in maybe 30 years.”

The player coach Luthe is referring to is Aaron Maybin , a 6-3 ½, 220-pound prospect who plays defensive end. Maybin, who made 80 tackles including 26 tackles-for-loss and 10 sacks last season as a junior, displayed his excellent athleticism at a recent University of Maryland camp.

“His best 40 yard dash time is a 4.52 and he just got that at the University of Maryland,” Luthe said. “He also has a 41-inch vertical. He’s very genetically gifted and he’s very diligent in the weight room. He loves the game. He talks football all the time. He thinks about football all the time.”

Since Maybin and teammate Chris Eccleston (a tailback and strong safety) entered the starting lineup as sophomores, Mount Hebron, which is not a traditional football power, has compiled records of 7-3 and 8-2, respectively.
