Scouting Report: John-Kevin Dolce

St. Anthony’s (Long Island, N.Y.) star John-Kevin Dolce , one of Virginia’s recent verbal commitments, alternated last season between the weakside and strongside defensive end positions. The Cavs are recruiting the 6-2, 220-pound standout as an outside linebacker. We caught up with St. Anthony’s assistant coach Mark Maier, who gave his thoughts on how John-Kevin fits into UVa’s system and more.

As a junior last season, Dolce made 57 tackles including 10 tackles-for-loss and four sacks. It was his first season playing varsity football.

TheSabre.com: How do you think Kevin’s skill set translates to outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense?

Coach Maier: “First of all, we’re a 4-3 defense and the weakside end, although he aligns with his hand on the ground, his skill set is to be an athletic type of guy. He is the same as an outside linebacker in the 3-4. Theoretically, if you took his hand off the ground, he would look like he’s playing the 3-4 and that’s the type of guy we want playing weakside d-end.”
