Today, Monsignor Bonner (Lansdowne, PA) quarterback Marc Verica was offered a scholarship to the University of Virginia and, although he had a written offer from Wisconsin and a verbal offer from Michigan State, it didn’t take him long to accept it. Verica is now the 11th member of UVa’s 2006 recruiting class.

“Earlier today, I talked to Mike Groh and he said ‘we’re going to offer you a scholarship and do you accept?’,” said Verica, who performed at UVa’s summer camp a few weeks ago. “He said they needed a quick decision in the situation they’re in right now, so I accepted. They were my top school. It’s a top notch academic school. It’s a great football program and they play in a great conference in the ACC. They run a pro-style offense, which is what I run in my high school. It’s relatively close to my home, too, so my parents and my family can travel to my games. There really isn’t more of an ideal situation for me, so I took it.”

What was Groh’s reaction to the immediate commitment?
