2006 Recruiting War Room #1: Halfway to Signing Day

Six Months Left…

Six months may seem like a long time, but, trust me, Signing Day will get here soon enough. So far, Virginia has landed 15 verbal commitments and the position breakdown goes like this – 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 OL, 2 DL, 2 ILBs, 2 OLBs and 1 jumbo athlete. Virginia has done a good job of addressing a pressing need at the linebacker spot and has also filled slots at the offensive skill positions. Let’s briefly look at each position…

Quarterback – Virginia missed out on its top target in Pat Devlin . Soon after Devlin chose Miami, Virginia offered and landed Marc Verica , who has good size at 6-3, 195 pounds and a good arm. Verica is a dropback passer with solid potential, but only has one full season at starting quarterback under his belt. It will be interesting to see how he continues to develop as a senior this year. Virginia’s other addition is O.C. Wardlow . Wardlow, rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com, is a dual-threat quarterback that does spend a lot of time in the pocket. Only 5-11, he has a strong arm and is extremely quick. He will get a shot at quarterback, but could move to another position as well.
