Chris Dalton is breaking out in a big way for West Iredell High School (Statesviille, N.C.) this season. The 6-2, 165-pound wide receiver has 54 catches for 815 yards and 13 touchdowns so far this year, tying the school record for most touchdowns in a season and needing only eight more receptions to tie the school record for receptions in a single season. Dalton, who sprinted three consecutive 40 times in the 4.3s earlier this year, has always had big time speed…so what has changed this season to make him a more complete receiver?
“Last year, I really didn’t have the hands to be a top wideout,” Dalton said. “I’ve always had the speed ever since my first year in track. I had 4.4 speed my first year. Speed is just a God given talent that I have. I wasn’t good enough to make the difficult catches. I put in a lot more work before my senior season. Last year, I would just run with the ball. Now, I go after the ball and step in front of the defenders to make the catch. This year, I have the will when I’m out there.”
Among Dalton’s top receptions this year are two one-handed catches and another where he used his improved aggressiveness.
