Sabre Roundtable: Post-Temple Talk

1) If you were to give Virginia a grade for its overall performance against Temple, what would it be and why?

Nick: B. I’m not sure an A would be possible due to the weakness of the competition. The team got done what it needed to do. Efficient on offense, aggressive on defense … can’t ask for much more. I should drop it to a C simply because of the inflatable fake horse thing that the Cavalier mascot was “riding” around. That was just embarrassing.

John: B+. The Cavaliers looked good, no doubt, but how much of that was because of the opponent? The test was too easy to give a meaningful grade. Pounding Temple is like doing the Kids Jumble or completing the TV Guide crossword puzzle. I’ll save the “A” for the equivalent of doing the New York Times crossword – beating VT or Miami.

Mike: The Wahoos get a B+ for their performance against Temple. Overall, the team executed well on both offense and defense. While it wasn’t a perfect game (dropped passes and a few missed tackles), at least the Cavaliers put away a team early that it should be putting away. If they had done it against a better opponent, I’d probably give them an A.

Hal: A-. Virginia physically beat Temple. We got shining games from Lundy, Snelling, Schmidt, Parham, Kurt Smith and Byers. Missing a shutout kept our grade from being higher.
