East Meadow (N.Y.) offensive line recruit John Elliott made unofficial visits to Maryland, Michigan, Notre Dame and Rutgers before this past weekend’s trip to the University of Virginia. The UVa staff needed to impress the 6-4 ½, 290-pound prospect who has 18 scholarship offers and climbing.

“He loved Virginia,” East Meadow head coach Vinny Mascia said. “He said it was great, coach Groh was great and the whole campus was great. It was really the first school he went a little nuts over. It’s a good sign because he probably saw something he liked.”

Echoing his head coach’s statement, Elliot said “I thought Virginia was a great place and it’s definitely up there.”
