Mount Carmel (PA) tight end prospect Mark Ambrose decided on Tuesday night that he wanted to go ahead and make a verbal commitment to the University of Virginia. He waited a few days to make sure he was making the right decision and, yesterday afternoon, called head coach Al Groh to make his pledge.

“After seeing Virginia, I just think it was the best offer and the best opportunity I would get,” Ambrose said. “I talked to my parents about making a commitment and we actually decided on Tuesday night that I should do it. I wanted to wait a couple of days to let it sink in and then I committed to coach Groh at about 2:15 [p.m. yesterday]. He was very excited. He told me I was an important player to his program, so he was excited to have me commit.”

Ambrose chose UVa over offers from Syracuse and Temple as well as serious interest from Boston College (which was in-school earlier this week), Northwestern and Vanderbilt. Asked if he is solid in his commitment, he replied “I’m pretty solid. Even my coach has been telling me that there aren’t many college where I could get this opportunity. I do very much want to be a Cavalier.”
