6-6, 255-pound tight end recruit Andrew Szczerba , a key component on a Salesianum (Wilmington, DE) squad that captured a state championship title last season, appears to be a top recruit for the Virginia staff. The ‘Hoos are one of nine Division 1A programs to offer officially, so there will certainly be some competition.

“They’ve been up here a lot,” Salesianum head coach Bill DiNardo said. Mike Groh is the primary recruiter here. “They’ve really done a great job recruiting him. They’ve really made it a family ordeal. Mike Groh has come up. I know Al Groh has come up. The last time they came in it was about five coaches that came in.”

Duke, Iowa, Maryland, North Carolina, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia are the other 1A programs that have officially offered. Szczerba has taken unofficial visits to Maryland, Penn State and has been to UVa on several occasions according to his coach.
