Cavs Pull Out Commitment from Minnifield

On Sunday night, Chase Minnifield had basically narrowed his list of schools to two – Louisville and Virginia. It was certainly a close decision in the end and one that went back and forth within the final 24 hours before the Henry Clay High School (Lexington, KY) standout finally settled on the Cavaliers.

“It was in the morning, when I woke up,” Minnifield said of when he finally settled on Virginia. He announced his decision at a 3:30 press conference at his high school. “I went to sleep sort of leaning towards Louisville. Before I went to sleep, me and my mom prayed on it. She woke up and said she really wanted me to go to Virginia, so I did as my mom said.”

The decision was a bit surprising considering his father, Frank Minnifield, was a star player for Louisville. In fact, Frank had his number retired by Louisville. But, Virginia’s Al Groh had a connection with Frank as well. Coach Groh was an assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns in 1992, Frank’s final season with the club.
