Will Mattes be a UVa Legacy?

Ron Mattes played defensive tackle for the University of Virginia from 1981-1984, finishing out his career by earning first-team all-ACC honors his senior year. The UVa football staff is hoping Mattes’ son, R.J., follows in his father’s footsteps. Virginia is one of six schools to have already offered R.J., who attends Robinson High School in Concord, North Carolina.

“I’ve got six offers now,” said R.J. Mattes , who is a 6-7, 255-pound offensive line prospect. His father was an offensive lineman for eight seasons in the NFL, including stints with the Seahawks, Bears, Colts, Jets and 49ers. “Right now, I have UVa, Clemson, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Duke and ECU.

“Virginia gave me one on September 3rd. A couple months went by and then Clemson offered. Once Clemson offered, they all started to come in.”
