It’s not often that you hear of a sophomore being one of the captains of a varsity football squad, but, in the case of current Churchville-Chili (Churchville, N.Y.) junior Averin Collier , that’s exactly what happened. One of the top rising senior recruits in the state of New York, Collier is a special character as well as a talented football player.
“One of the Pitt coaches likened Averin to Ray Lewis in that he makes the whole team better,” Churchville-Chili head coach Paul Dick said. “He is a powerful leader. He has great leadership and he is very focused.”
Primarily a running back last season as a junior, the 5-11, 195-pound Collier rushed for 1,542 yards and 22 touchdowns on a team that finished 8-1 on the year. He saw time at quarterback and wide receiver as well and racked up over 2,200 all-purpose yards.
