When Dave Leitao arrived at Virginia, the men’s basketball program had won just 11 ACC games combined in two years. The team struggled with defense and rebounding. It had lost its identity as a run-and-gun team, choosing instead to slow things down and spread the court on offense.

Discipline had slipped both on and off the court. Player chemistry was virtually non-existent. Many players seemed to bring the same skill set to the floor year after year.
