Rock, paper, scissors. One, two, three – shoot! Rock hammers scissors. Scissors cut paper. Paper covers rock. One, two, three – shoot! Think ahead. Mix it up. Counter every move. One, two, three – shoot! Don’t think so much. Rely on a go-to move. Don’t react to every move.

Simple yet complicated. That’s life in the men’s lacrosse face-off X for guys like Adam Fassnacht . Think but don’t think. Act and react. Rock, paper, scissors. One, two , three – shoot!

“It’s really a big game of rock, paper, scissors. There’s like three or four moves you can use and they all can counter each other,” Fassnacht said, coming up with the analogy on the fly during an interview in University Hall. “You always have your go-to move, but you always try to throw the guy off. When you think about it too much, that’s when you get all messed up. Even though that’s kind of a simplistic reference, that’s what it is.”
