Robinson (Concord, N.C.) offensive tackle R.J. Mattes attended Virginia’s Big Man Camp last Saturday, giving him an opportunity to learn from Virginia offensive line coach Dave Borbely. The experience was a success for Mattes as well as the Virginia program, which is heavily recruiting the 6-7, 275-pound prospect.
“To be honest, it was a great camp,” Mattes said. “Usually, you go to a camp and they just want you to run the 40-yard dash and some other stuff. At this camp, it was all teaching and teaching, drills and more drills. It was one of the best camps I’ve been to as far as learning technique. I really enjoyed working with Coach Borbely and talking with Coach Groh.”
Coach Groh wasn’t bashful in saying just how highly regarded the staff sees Mattes, who is the son of former Virginia lineman Ron Mattes.
