One of Virginia’s top overall targets for the 2008 class will be in Charlottesville this weekend on an official visit. R.J. Mattes , a 6-7, 285-pound offensive tackle out of Robinson High School (Concord, N.C.), will head to Charlottesville early Saturday morning and return home late Sunday afternoon. Virginia will be the first of five official visits Mattes plans to take before coming to a decision.
The 4-star senior has visited Virginia many, many times, as he grew up a Virginia fan. His father, Ron Mattes, played football for the Cavaliers in the early 80s.
“I’ve been to UVa a bazillion times before, so it will not be brand new,” said Mattes, whose most recent visit to Virginia was for camp this summer. “I want to hang out with the players and see how the program is run. I want to see in depth what they do and get a better relationship with the players. That is what will really help me in my decision.”
