The University of Virginia’s latest football commitment is from 6-6, 238-pound punter prospect Jimmy Howell , a standout out of West Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina. Howell, who chose the Cavaliers over Northwestern, took some time to answer questions about his recruitment and his future at Virginia in this “Q&A” session.

As a junior last season, Howell averaged 39.5 yards per punt. In order to gain more exposure, he attended several college camps this past summer including Clemson, LSU, Northwestern and Virginia. He received an offer from Northwestern and decided to commit to the Wildcats. Virginia came in with an offer late last month and, having made follow-up visits to Northwestern and UVa, Howell decided to switch his commitment to Virginia.

This season, Howell has played several positions for head coach Trey Woodberry. In addition to being the punter, he is the starting quarterback and place-kicker. He missed three games due to injury this season, but so far has averaged 43.5 yards per punt. A good athlete, he averaged 100 yards rushing and 100 yards passing over the first two games before being injured.
