One of the more intriguing prospects in the state of Virginia’s 2008 football recruiting class is a player who originally only thought of himself as a basketball player. That is until Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) head coach Jim Prince helped convince Randall Dunn to play football last season. Foreshadowing things to come, the 6-3 Dunn returned a kick-off 80 yards for a touchdown the first time he touched the ball last season.

Dunn, a wide receiver for Ocean Lakes, only played five games last season. He has played the entire season this year and, as a result of his performance, has received Division 1A scholarship offers. In seven games – Ocean Lakes is 6-1 heading into a big contest this week versus undefeated Green Run – Dunn has tallied 10 touchdowns including two in last Friday’s victory.

“I think he is one of those situations where he never realized the potential he had in football,” Prince said of Dunn, whose first season playing high school football was last season. “He was a 6-3 basketball player, but there are a lot of 6-3 basketball players. He is a good basketball player, but probably just a lower college player. There are not many 6-3, 212-pound wide receivers that can run a 4.5 and have those hands. He has become a real commodity as far as football is concerned.”
