Losing its first three games of the season by an average of six points per game, Hackensack (N.J.) is now 2-5 heading into this week’s home match-up versus Montclair. One of the bright spots in what has been a trying season has been University of Virginia recruit Ausar Walcott , a 6-4, 200-pound senior. Walcott, originally slotted at wide receiver and safety at the start of this season, was moved to running back in game three and has produced excellent results ever since.

“The running back we had wasn’t doing what he was supposed to, so one day in practice Coach Whiting just put me back there all of the sudden,” Walcott said. “I used to play as a freshman, but I hadn’t played since. It was easy. I just listened to what our coach told me to do and went from there.”

Prior to last week’s 27-0 loss to Eastside, Walcott posted 847 yards rushing in four games including a 338-yard effort in a 22-13 win over Nutley.
