South Lakes (Reston, VA) star A.J. Price received several surprises from UVa yesterday. The first one came when another University of Virginia coach besides primary recruiter Anthony Poindexter stopped by his high school. The second came when that coach extended an official scholarship offer to the 6-4, 170-pound senior wide receiver.

“Coach [Al] Groh actually came and offered me a scholarship personally, so that was kind of cool,” Price said. “I was expecting to see Coach Poindexter. I walk in the office and Coach Groh is there, so there was like a 15-second shock period (laughs). We sat down and he talked to me for a while. He talked about why he was offering, the school, the graduation rates, his team goals and his philosophy.”

An official visit to Virginia will still likely take place in January, but Coach Groh did invite Price to take an unofficial visit to Charlottesville this weekend.
