UVa stayed in the Commonwealth for its second verbal commitment of the weekend, scoring a pledge from Great Bridge (Chesapeake, VA) standout lineman Michael Price . The 6-5, 260-pound prospect became Virginia’s third verbal commitment from the state of Virginia earlier today, quickly accepting head coach Al Groh’s scholarship offer.

Price made an official visit to UVa this weekend and met with Groh this morning, which is when he learned that he would have a scholarship.

“He is ecstatic with Virginia,” Great Bridge head coach Pete Gale said. “Virginia coaches had talked to him some months ago, but this past season was really only his second year playing varsity football. He didn’t have a lot of junior tape, which slowed his recruitment. At the time, a lot of the big Division 1A schools, UVa included, had invested a lot of time with other kids. Michael received an offer from ODU and fell in love with the situation there. He was buying into the whole thing about being a 4-year starter and everything. UVa comes into the picture about five or six days ago. Michael was very excited. He went up there this weekend. He met with Coach Groh this morning. Coach Groh offered him a scholarship and he took it.”
