UVa Signs 18

The Hoos signed a solid class today — headlined by 4-star running back Torrey Mack (sub. req.) The class included a number of talented players with good academics that met some important needs like on the offensive line.

But this wasn’t a “star studded” class by any stretch: ranked #62 by Scout and ranked 11th on Rivals in the ACC. And the lack of commitments from the Commonwealth is disturbing for obvious reasons. But, our staff has been pretty solid at developing talent, so hopefully that trend will continue.

All there’s left to say on this relatively staid signing day is: Welcome new Hoos!

UVa Signs 18

On National Signing Day, the University of Virginia’s football program received letters-of-intent from 18 prospects in the 2008 recruiting class.

There have been no surprises so far, but the staff did receive some disappointing news today when a former commitment, East Stroudsburg (PA) offensive lineman Corey Lewis , signed with the University of Illinois. Lewis’ defection was expected, but the news was still disappointing.

Of Virginia’s 18 signees, nine are projected to start out on offense including one quarterback, one running back (4-star prospect Torrey Mack ), one wide receiver, three tight ends and three offensive linemen. Eight prospects are expected to start out on defense, including three defensive linemen, one linebacker, two safeties and two cornerbacks. 6-6, 238-pound Jimmy Howell , a prospect out of West Florence High School in South Carolina, was recruited as a punter.
