Junior football standout Tucker Windle had been to the University of Virginia many, many times before last Sunday’s junior day. His father, Al, was a linebacker for the Cavaliers in the ’70s, and Tucker grew up a big UVa fan. When the Charlotte Catholic (Charlotte, N.C.) star received an official scholarship offer from the ‘Hoos earlier this month, he said he “had to” make a return trip to Charlottesville for the February 24th event.

The experience didn’t disappoint the 6-3, 220-pound outside linebacker recruit.

“It was great. There were a bunch of prospects there that hopefully they are bringing in for the 2009 class. The talent there was unbelievable,” Windle recalled. “They split all of the recruits into groups. I was in Mike Groh’s group. I’ve known him for a while because my dad played there. He took us on the field. He talked about the school. It was just amazing. I’ve grown up a Virginia fan my whole life. My dad played there. The junior day was a great experience. Mike Groh talked to me about maybe committing early. I’m being recruited to play outside linebacker, which was the position my dad played there. Being able to play the same position my dad did at the same school would be something special.”
