Caleb Porzel had never visited the University of Virginia prior to the February 24th junior day, but the experience he had then, coupled with a comfort level with primary recruiter Anthony Poindexter, was all he needed. The 5-8, 180-pound Good Counsel (Wheaton, MD) athlete verbally committed to the Cavaliers two days later.

“I liked Virginia before I got offered,” said Porzel, who was offered a scholarship by head coach Al Groh shortly before the junior day. “I had developed a relationship with Coach Poindexter more than coaches from other schools. He stopped by our school more than the other coaches. We developed a bond. At the junior day, I fell in love with the school. I can get a good degree there and the campus is beautiful. I liked the atmosphere. I liked the school’s history. I liked the academics and the academic support. And the stadium is nice. I can picture myself playing in that stadium.”

Porzel felt comfortable with Coach Poindexter very early in his recruitment. Poindexter took over recruiting Good Counsel following the departure of former Virginia defensive coordinator Mike London, who of course is now the head coach at the University of Richmond.
