St. Peter’s Prep (Jersey City) boasts one of the strongest varsity football programs in the state of New Jersey, so there is no surprise that the school consistently produces Division 1A talent. The 2009 class is no different, as running back/cornerback Nyshier Oliver boasts double-digit scholarship offers according to head coach Rich Hansen.

“College coaches like that he catches the ball, returns kicks and punts, plays corner, plays some strong safety, runs in the I-back formation…he has a lot of flexibility,” Hansen said of the 5-11, 180-pound Oliver. “Now, he has 10 or 12 offers in writing. Most of them are at corner, but some have mentioned offense. Virginia is one of those schools that mentioned playing him on offense.”

As a sophomore in 2006, Oliver was the starter at strong safety but he also served as the backup running back to former St. Peter’s star Shariff Harris, who is now at Pitt. As a junior this past season, the talented prospect was the team’s main running back and also saw action at the cornerback position. He rushed for 1,400 yards, earning first-team all-league and first-team all-county honors. On defense, he picked off three passes in a single game.
