The University of Virginia has been trying to break through at Oscar Smith High School (Chesapeake, VA) for the past several years. Today, it succeeded, scoring a commitment from the school’s all-time leading tackler in 5-9, 185-pound Perry Jones . Jones, who is a fast (electronically timed at a recent Nike Combine at 4.5 in the 40), physical talent, is being recruited by Virginia as a safety.

“Perry just committed to Coach Groh at about 4:30 [this afternoon],” Oscar Smith head coach Rich Morgan said. “He is solid on his commitment and is done with recruiting. This is a great pick up for UVA. He brings a contagious attitude with the way he plays.”

Jones had picked up offers from Boston College and Navy prior to the one from the University of Virginia, which came last Friday. Coach Morgan raves about Jones’ abilities and feels his star warranted more Division 1A attention.
