Former Fauquier head coach Greg Hatfield said on Monday that Connor McCartin is a “good fit” at the University of Virginia. The Fauquier (Warrenton, VA) star linebacker certainly believed that to be the case, which is why he didn’t take long to accept the University of Virginia scholarship offer he received last Friday.

Virginia’s coaching staff, led by primary recruiter Bob Price, had eyed McCartin since last fall before becoming the first Division 1A program to come through with a written offer (though Coach Hatfield believes several more 1A offers were on the way had McCartin visited those particular schools this Spring).

“Coach Price called Coach Hatfield and said he wanted me to come down,” McCartin recalled of landing the offer from Virginia. “We decided to go last Friday. Coach Hatfield said he had a feeling they would offer by the way Coach Price was talking, but he wasn’t sure. When I was meeting with Coach Groh on the visit, I had an idea they would offer. In the meeting, he talked quite a bit about how he felt like I worked in their scheme and how he thought I would be a big-time player for them. He said I am what they look for in a prospect. Then, he offered.”
