Simpson Concentrating on Five

Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia are the five finalists for Henry Clay (Lexington, KY) offensive lineman Samuel Simpson , who is one of the top overall recruits in the state of Kentucky’s 2009 class. Samuel’s father, Sam Simpson, who is Henry Clay’s head varsity football coach, provided the latest on his son’s recruitment.

This summer, the younger Simpson made unofficial visits to each of his five finalists. He has had an opportunity to get to know the offensive line coach at each school, something very important when it comes to making a final decision.

“Samuel’s goal was to be coached by every coach at every school he was serious about,” Coach Simpson said. “That’s has happened. He just finished at Alabama and spent a couple of days with Coach Pendry and Coach Saban. He went back to the schools to be coached one day by the coach who would be coaching him, so it was an effort by him to take the next step in doing his homework. He wasn’t really shopping for more offers. I got a phone call from Texas last week and told the coach Samuel was not interested. I think he has narrowed it down to those five schools – [in no particular order] Virginia, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.”
