Recent reports indicated that University of Virginia wide receiver commit Tyree Watkins was now a “soft commit” and willing to look at other programs. UVa offensive coordinator Mike Groh, who also serves as the primary recruiter here, was able to communicate with the 6-2, 180-pound Camden Catholic (Camden, N.J.) standout this week. What came from those conversations?

“I talked things over with Coach [Mike] Groh a couple of days this week while I was up at [Camden Catholic’s preseason] camp,” Watkins said. “He was telling me how their scrimmages were going. He was telling me that I’m their number one wide receiver on their board. I liked everything he was telling me, but I want to see it first hand.”

Watkins discussed exactly what he wants to see from Virginia’s football program when it takes on USC next Saturday. He will be in attendance for that game and he also plans to make an official visit to UVa, though no date has been set for the official.
