UConn Scouting Report: Defense & Punting

Last season in Charlottesville, Jameel Sewell directed the Cavaliers to a game-winning fourth quarter drive against the Connecticut defense. On the final series, Sewell completed 3 of 4 passes for 52 yards, including a critical 3rd-and-5 connection to tight end Tom Santi .

UConn’s defensive unit was among the best in the nation in 2007. The Huskies ranked 37th nationally in total defense, yielding just 351.38 yards per game. With eight starters returning and an influx of talent, Connecticut might have the best defense in the Big East in 2008.

Early into the campaign, the Huskies are ranked seventh in the country in scoring defense and 20th in total defense, giving up just 234 yards per game. UConn is tied for 13th in scoring defense at 19.00 points per game and 10th in passing efficiency defense with a 121.67 rating.

Connecticut struggled to score against Temple. The Wahoo defense is better than many think and the defense that wins this contest will be on the side that wins the game.
