Clemson Scouting Report: Offense & Kicking

Virginia will know more about its fate Saturday with respect to the title game when they return to Scott Stadium for the final home game of the season. If the Yellow Jackets lose, they end the ACC title hopes for themselves and the Wahoos. If the they win, UNC, Virginia and Virginia Tech are all still in the mix. Step two would then be to defeat Clemson, which wont’ be an easy task.

For the Tigers and Cavaliers, a difficult road remains to earn postseason play. With two of its five victories over Football Championship Subdivision opponents, Clemson needs wins over both Virginia and South Carolina to claim one of the ACC’s 10 postseason spots. A loss removes the Tigers from bowl consideration for the first time since 2004. For Virginia, a loss would end any chance of playing for the ACC title, but the possibility of postseason play somewhere would still be possible. However, the Cavaliers would have to do something they haven’t accomplished in four tries – win in Blacksburg over the Hokies – in order to make Holiday travel plans to somewhere other than home.

It’s been 28 years since the Cavaliers ended three-and-half decades of futility against Clemson and since that magical night in 1990, the Hoos are 8-6-1 against the Tigers; coach Al Groh’s teams have always played Tommy Bowden tough. But Bowden is gone and the last time the two teams played on the gridiron was 2004. Virginia has won 3 of the last 4 meetings and 7 of the last 10 against the Tigers
