DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD), one of the top high school football programs in the state of Maryland year in and year out, was loaded in the 2007 season. Head coach Bill McGregor had 32 seniors graduate after that season and returned only three starters to this year’s squad. For many seniors, this season was their first opportunity to shine for their team and for college recruiters. This is the case with 6-3, 244-pound Jeremiah Mathis , who has seen his recruitment flourish over the past few months.

“Nobody really knew what we had in our senior class this year,” McGregor said.

Mathis started at tight end and defensive end for DeMatha, which captured its sixth straight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship with a 34-7 win over Good Counsel. He earned all-conference honors in helping the Stags to a 10-2 overall record.
