According to the Asheville Citizen-Times, the University of Virginia has received a verbal commitment from 6-3, 230-pound quarterback Tyler Brosius . The Tuscola High School (Waynesville, N.C.) product committed to Al Groh and company late last night, hours after returning home from an unofficial visit to UVa.

Brosius, named Citizen-Times All-WNC Player of the Year last season, pledged to the Hoos over offers from Central Florida, East Carolina, Maryland and Pittsburgh, among others, and interest from N.C. State. Virginia came through with an offer over the weekend.

As a junior last season, Brosius threw for 2,347 with 27 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He added seven rushing touchdowns on the year. Attempts to reach the Tar Heel state standout last night were unsuccessful, but stay tuned for more on Virginia’s latest verbal later today.

Both of UVa’s 2010 class verbals hail from the state of North Carolina. West Rowan (Mount Ulla, N.C.) running back Kevin Parks , who led West Rowan to a Class 3-A state title last season, has been committed to Virginia since February.

Brosius’ decision may be the start of a big week for Virginia, which will host at least 12 talented rising seniors at this Saturday’s “Future Wahoo Day,” the latest version of UVa’s Elite Junior Day.
