The University of Virginia coaching staff certainly did its part in evaluating Tuscola (Waynesville, N.C.) rising senior quarterback Tyler Brosius . The staff was represented at Tuscola High on three occasions throughout the 6-3, 230-pound signal caller’s junior year, including a visit this spring from new offensive coordinator Gregg Brandon, who watched Brosius throw. UVa finally came through with an offer yesterday and ended up with a commitment.

“Coach Al Groh called [Tuscola] Coach [Donnie] Kiefer about how much they like Tyler and how much they wanted him to come up,” said Tyler’s father, Mike Brosius. “If someone wants to offer, we’re willing to go visit. We went up there thinking they would show us around and at the end offer Tyler. It was a lot more serious than that. They really wanted Tyler. They were wondering what they had to do to get him in the fold. Coach Groh felt Tyler could come in and lead the team in the years to come. We watched film for two hours with Coach Groh and the offensive coordinator. They run the type of offense Tyler wants to be involved in. There is a lot of passing but he’ll get a chance to run the ball some. He loves the country out there. He said it felt sort of like home.
