Multiple outlets, including the Roanoke Times, are reporting that UVa has received a verbal commitment from Pablo Alvarez , a 6-3, 185-pound cornerback/wide receiver out of Belen Jesuit School in Miami, Florida. Alvarez becomes Al Groh’s sixth commitment of the 2010 recruiting class.

A terrific athlete, participates in three varsity sports including football, basketball and track. He earned honorable mention Class 3A all-state honors and first-team all-Dade County honors for his play at cornerback this past season. He is also a standout in track, in which he runs the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles, among other things.

Alvarez, rated #63 on Bill Buchalter’s Top 100 Florida rankings, committed to Virginia over offers from Duke, Iowa, Northwestern and Purdue.

Stay tuned for more on Alvarez’ commitment later in the day.
