A week prior an unofficial visit to the University of Virginia on June 14th, Kyrell Latimer knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to be part of UVa’s 2010 class. The 5-11, 192-pound followed through, pledging to head coach Al Groh before heading home on that Sunday. Latimer, a defensive back prospect out of DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD), reflected on the day he committed.

“When we got there, we met with Coach Poindexter, my recruiting coordinator, and he showed us around the campus,” said Latimer, who was accompanied by his parents. “He showed us where the academic parts were and different things. We got to the football offices and sat in a meeting with Coach Groh. He asked if I had any questions. I asked him why he offered me. He said I am the type of player he likes in his program. I said this is the program I want to be part of. He asked if I was making it official and I said I was.”

One of the first calls Latimer made after committing was to Shawn Moore, former UVa great and a close family friend.
