Tidewater Standout Commits to Virginia

Rijo Walker arrived at practice today as though nothing was different. A humble personality, he simply told Bethel (Hampton, VA) head coach Jeff Nelson that he had made his college choice.

“He’s not one to do anything over the top. He said ‘Coach, I’m going to UVa,'” Nelson said. “I told him I was happy for him. I know they really wanted him, so I’m sure they were ecstatic. He called Coach [Latrell] Scott just before practice and committed”

A 5-10, 175-pound cornerback prospect, Walker is the 10th high school senior to commit to Virginia’s 2010 recruiting class. He chose the Hoos over offers from East Carolina, N.C. State, Northwestern, South Carolina, Wake Forest and West Virginia. UVa had the edge since offering in late June, but Walker traveled to several other schools to explore his options.

“He had been leaning to Virginia. It was the school he wanted to go to, but he wanted to be smart and to see everything out there,” Nelson said. “He told me he didn’t see a school that swayed him away from UVa.”
