Cobb Never Wavered on Commitment

Although he has yet to speak with new head coach Mike London, Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) senior Ryan Cobb is pleased with the University of Virginia’s selection. Not that he was considering anything else but signing with the Cavaliers in February, something he pledged to do in June earlier this year.

“I’ve had zero second thoughts,” said Cobb, who is looking forward to speaking with London for the first time. “I committed to the University. I’m disappointed not to play for Coach Groh and his staff. They are great guys, but I did make a commitment to the school as well. It doesn’t matter who the captain is.”

Don Bosco’s starting weak-side linebacker, Cobb finished 2009 with 47 solo tackles and five tackles for loss. A starter at H-back as well, he reeled in 31 receptions for 545 yards. His eight touchdown receptions led all tight ends in the state this season.

Cobb tallied two interceptions as well and returned one for a touchdown. The other came on the first play of the Non-Public, Group 4 Championship against St. Peter’s Prep. Cobb recalled the pick, which happened on the game’s first play from scrimmage. Don Bosco would go on to win 35-15.
