Shepherd Anxious To Prove Self At UVa

Gwynn Park (Brandywine, MD) running back Khalek Shepherd ended his high school football career in strong fashion, rushing for 1,348 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior in 2009. The 5-8, 170-pound Virginia commitment now looks forward to an opportunity to showcase his abilities on the major FBS level.

“I just want to show my skills,” Shepherd said when asked what his goals are at UVa. “I want to show I’m an all-around back. Off the field, I plan on making good grades and I plan on getting over a 3.0 each semester.”

Shepherd expects to bring some versatility to the Cavaliers running back roster, though he is not yet certain of what exact plans Mike London has in store.

“Since I’m so used to going to wide receiver or going to running back or playing quarterback in the Wildcat, I’d be perfectly fine with being an athlete. They’re recruiting me to play offense, really,” said Shepherd, the son of former NFL receiver Leslie Shepherd. “I just want the ball in my hands. I’ll move out to wide receiver, play some slot and make some catches. I’ll return kicks and punts.
