One Visit Remains for Lawe

6-5, 290-pound offensive lineman/defensive lineman Stephen Lawe will sign with either Old Dominion or the University of Virginia on February 3rd. He made an official visit to ODU this past weekend and plans to take an official to UVa on the weekend before Signing Day. How was the ODU experience?

“I really liked the visit,” Lawe answered. “I had lots of fun meeting the coaching staff, players and taking in the environment. I liked the education and living style. I felt like I knew the guys. I felt really good there.”

Old Dominion impressed Lawe, but the Maury product admits that playing on a higher level of football is appealing.

“That is a big factor,” Lawe said of UVa playing on the FBS level. “UVa is in the ACC and ODU is in the CAA. It’s a big factor with how the environment is on gameday.”

Lawe denies a favorite at this point, saying he won’t have one until he takes his official visit to UVa. He has visited Virginia before and discussed what he’ll look for this time around.

“I want to take in the environment, get to know the new coaching staff better and see if UVa will be a fit for me,” said Lawe, who’ll make the January 29th trip with his father, mother and sister.

Virginia head coach Mike London offered Lawe the week he was hired. Since then, he and several of his assistants have tried to get to know the talented lineman.

“I’ve talked to coach London and Chip West and coach Brown,” Lawe said. “They seem like good coaches to be around for the next four or five years. They seem like they’d be real fun to play for. They’ve tried to get to know me. They talk about education and ask how school is going.”

Lawe says he will have a decision before Signing Day. Stay tuned for more from the standout lineman, as we’ll check back following his official the weekend of the 29th.
