The University of Virginia track and football programs have gained a promising prospect in Henrico (VA) senior DreQuan Hoskey . Hoskey, an all-district cornerback and indoor track state champion in the 55 meters, has committed and will sign a letter of intent with the UVa track program next Tuesday with the intention of playing both sports.
“I decided on UVa basically when the track team offered me a few weeks ago. Now, it’s official,” said Hoskey, who also had track interest from UNC and Tennessee. “Virginia has always been a dream school for me. As soon as they offered, I took it. I’ve talked to Coach London. He wants me to join the football team. It hasn’t been decided totally, but I think it’s going to be a half and half scholarship. We’re working it out.
“I’m excited to play both sports. I like track and football.”
When Mike London was head coach of the Richmond football team, Hoskey was one of his verbal commitments. One point shy of U of R’s minimum requirement on the ACT, he couldn’t sign a letter of intent with the Spiders in February. Hoskey says he was offered an opportunity to go to Fork Union for a year and then enroll at Richmond, where Latrell Scott has since taken over as head football coach. But after scoring a 20 on the March ACT and subsequently receiving an official offer from UVa track, the speedy athlete decided to go in another direction.
