Top Target Profile: DE Marco Jones

Marco Jones transferred from Mount St. Joseph’s (Baltimore, MD) to Boys’ Latin School (Baltimore, MD) after his freshman year, but due to transfer rules he was ineligible to play as a sophomore. A year on the sidelines ultimately turned out to be a positive, Boys Latin head coach Ritchie Schell believes.

“He showed a lot of patience in that time,” Schell said. “He was getting used to a smaller school and a more difficult atmosphere academically, so he was able to do that. He still could practice with us and he did a good job. He’s very unselfish.”

The 6-3, 250-pound junior took the field this past season and didn’t disappoint, starring at defensive end and offensive tackle in helping Boys’ Latin to a 10-1 overall record.

“He has great stamina for a kid his size,” Schell said of Jones, who racked up 70 tackles including four sacks on the defensive side of the ball. “He doesn’t let the fact that he gets double and triple teamed frustrate him. For a kid his size, the way he changes direction is amazing. His initial 10 or 15 yards is really quick. He always finishes blocks. He tracks guys down from one sideline to the next. He understands the game and he’s very coachable.”
