Chalk up another in-state commitment for the Virginia football program. Rising senior quarterback David Watford announced today that he has committed to UVa, which scores its first Hampton High School (VA) signal caller since Marques Hagans. Coincidentally, Hagans is a cousin of Watford.
The 6-1, 185-pound signal caller chose UVa over offers from Virginia Tech and West Virginia, though the final decision came down to the in-state rivals. Watford announced his decision at the Peninsula All-Star Football Camp at Christopher Newport University.
As a junior last season, Watford totaled 2,018 yards of offense in guiding the Crabbers to an 8-4 overall record. A good athlete that has run the 100 meters in 10.8 seconds, Watford rushed for 480 yards in 2009 and is capable of making big plays on the ground. He gets the job done in the classroom as well, carrying over a 3.5 grade point average.
Virginia now has 20 commitments, including 12 from the Commonwealth, in the 2011 class. Stay tuned to the EDGE for more from Watford on his college decision.
