Chase Minnifield made two interceptions against VMI.

When Chase Minnifield bungled a first quarter attempt to catch a punt, he quickly thought that he had to put it behind him and then make some plays to atone for the mistake. The junior cornerback delivered on that front, intercepting two passes and making two more tackles as the Cavaliers cruised to a 48-7 victory against VMI on Saturday.

“On the punt it was just bad concentration on my part,” Minnifield said. “I kind of lost sight of the ball. I tried to see where the people were coming down and judge if the distance was enough that I needed to fair catch the ball and then I kind of lost it and when I looked back up in the air it just dropped on me. I probably shouldn’t have stuck my hands out there to try to catch it, but they didn’t jump me. The coaches really just stayed calm and I kept my head in the game and just tried to make up for the mistake.”
