VHS Star Frye Will Walk On At UVa

Ian Frye

This summer, Virginia High School (Bristol, VA) place-kicker Ian Frye received and accepted a recruited walk-on spot in the University of Virginia’s 2011 class. The 6-6, 190-pound senior, who had the same offer from Virginia Tech and serious interest from Maryland, decided four years ago to play football. Certainly, he is pleased with that decision.

“I grew up playing soccer,” said Frye, whose father, Mark, played soccer collegiately at King College. “I’ve always had the strongest leg on the team. I came into Virginia High not knowing anybody because I had attended private school before then, so I decided to try out for football to get to know people. I was short back then, but I grew a lot through high school. I’m now 6-6, 190 pounds. As I grew, my leg got stronger and stronger. I thought I’d try to take my kicking abilities to the next level.”
